On Wednesday, 8.24, we kick off the Fall 2016 Midweek Worship lineup with a bang…new deacon ordination. But before I get into that, let me preview the rest of the lineup which you can see listed below by date.
As we resume the fall season, I’m teaching the second half of the Church Life series. This series is for our church, for you, and to equip you for disciple making. I am reminding us of the core values of a New Testament church that we hold dear so we can keep protecting these essentials. They create the kind of healthy, vibrant church environment in which we can all grow in Christ. The series will also prepare you to answer questions of those you disciple, such as “When I get to college, how should I pick a church?” or “Does it really matter if a church doesn’t believe the bible is entirely true?”
After the Church Life series, I’ll teach a New Life series. Every Christian needs to know how to disciple a brand new Christian in the early steps of Christianity; I’m going to teach you how. Every Christian also ought to know how to counsel another believer who has a struggle or a problem. This is essential to disciple making and mentoring. I am going to teach you the practical basics of biblical counseling. This series will help us have more members who can sharpen other members as iron sharpens iron.
Interspersed we are going to hear sermons from Pastor James and Pastor Del.
But back to the new deacon ordination on Wednesday, 8.24. Last Spring, our congregation went through the deacon selection process and voted to select Dave Owens for the role, replacing Gene Shine who is rotating off the deacon body. We will have a special service to set Dave apart for this assignment in the life of our church. You should come be a part of it; it is a very spiritual time in the life of our church.
