NEHBC feels divinely led to care particularly for the Houstonians of the 5th Ward. So much so, we have invested a lot of time and money in establishing a footprint in that community: we own a one and a half city block physical needs mission at 3625 Gage Street, Houston. Each year through Farrington Mission, we help feed and clothe literally thousands of underprivileged Houstonians. We build relationships with hundreds of young men through basketball. What started as a Crisis Pregnancy Center graduated to a Pregnancy Medical Clinic that offers a full array of wholistic care to mothers and babies in a crisis pregnancy and for a full twelve months following the pregnancy. In two weeks, we are rolling out a major announcement to NEHBC: the Pregnancy Medical Clinic is graduating again, this time to a Women’s Health Center, which offers a vast array of women’s health care in addition to reproduction issues, staffed by professional nurses and PAs. Thanks to our partnership with The Source for Women of Houston, I can in humble confidence tell you NEHBC plays a significant role in providing Houston with a women’s health center whose quality and services exceed that of Planned Parenthood’s clinic in Houston, and everything is free of charge. Houston does not need Planned Parenthood. We offer better women’s health care to Houstonians and the new full time Director is an NEHBC member. All glory to God.
It simply amazing what Jesus Christ is doing at Farrington Mission in Houston’s 5th Ward…and so it is easy for a one night event per year to get lost in the shuffle. For the last five or so years, we’ve done “Feed the 5th” – a large, sit down, hot meal on Tuesday night of Thanksgiving week. Here are the most important facts: it is free, all are welcome and the food is delicious and plentiful. This is not some meal haphazardly thrown together so we can say we fed dinner to a bunch of people. It is a full on, hot, delicious spread you would be proud to serve at your house. Hundreds of people come and leave so stuffed full of food, they are hurting. We sit and eat with them. We share stories, encourage, comfort, celebrate, and as they allow us, we share the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Tonight is “Feed the 5th.” Some of our members have been preparing for weeks; incredible. Some took vacation days yesterday and today simply to cook all the food; what love. Others will staff the needed teams tonight: parking, security, welcome and hospitality, cooking, serving, eating, trash, break down.
Please pray for Jesus Christ to be the capstone.
