Marriage is a gospel issue. Abortion is a gospel issue. Religious freedom is a gospel issue. How do we love the things God loves and hate the things God hates in our workplace, our schools, and in the public square? How do we speak biblically to gospel issues in our rapidly changing culture? As Southern Baptists, we are blessed to have an entity – the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) – that helps and encourages us as churches and individuals to think through these questions and apply Christian principles to them. Additionally, the ERLC actively speaks to many of these issues on a grander scale on behalf of Southern Baptists. Led by President, Dr. Russell Moore, the ERLC represents the concerns and views of Southern Baptists on Capitol Hill and keeps a steady pulse on public policy coming in and out of Washington, DC.
As the 114th Congress of the United States is now meeting, the ERLC has compiled a legislative agenda of gospel issues that they will engage – both in support and opposition. Sanctity of human life, marriage and family and religious freedom are just a few of the issues to be addressed. This helpful guide can help familiarize you with legislation impacting our culture and equip you to effectively stand for gospel issues in your circle of influence.
